Kuwait Implements 15% Tax on Multinational Entities

Effective January 1, 2025, multinational corporations operating in Kuwait will be subject to a 15% tax. This measure aligns Kuwait's taxation policies with international standards, ensuring equitable contributions from global entities while strengthening domestic fiscal stability.

This law is part of Kuwait's broader efforts to combat tax evasion and foster a transparent tax environment. By adopting this reform, Kuwait positions itself as a compliant participant in global economic frameworks.

Infrastructure Development Takes Center Stage

During the weekly Cabinet meeting at Bayan Palace, chaired by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmed Al-Abdullah, the government underscored the urgency of advancing infrastructure projects.

Focus on Sewage Treatment Plants

To meet the demands of Kuwait’s expanding residential areas, the Cabinet instructed the Ministry of Public Works to collaborate with the Public Institution for Housing Care. This partnership aims to fast-track contracts for sewage treatment plants, ensuring their timely delivery and operational efficiency.

Such measures reflect Kuwait’s commitment to enhancing living standards and supporting sustainable urban development.

Revocation of Fraudulently Obtained Citizenship

In alignment with Decree Law No. 15 of 1959, the Cabinet reviewed recommendations from the Supreme Committee for the Investigation of Kuwaiti Nationality.

Fraudulent Citizenship Cases

Several cases of Kuwaiti citizenship obtained through fraud or forgery were identified, leading to the revocation of these citizenships. This decision reinforces Kuwait’s dedication to maintaining the integrity of its legal and national frameworks.

Additional Cabinet Discussions

The meeting also addressed various other topics, with several decisions referred to specialized ministerial committees for further deliberation and action.

The Court of Appeals has overturned the conviction of a citizen and his wife, acquitting them of insulting an administrative employee at a preparatory school for girls. The incident, which took place at the Ministry of Education, involved a verbal argument between the accused couple and a public sector employee in the Student Affairs Department.

Incident Details

The argument began when the accused couple confronted the employee after she interfered with their daughter’s hijab. The father, enraged by the incident, shouted at the employee, while the mother later arrived at the scene, forcefully opening the office window to hurl insults at the employee, as per the investigation findings.

Defense's Argument

Attorney Mohammad Al-Sayegh, representing the defendants, argued before the Court of Appeals that there was insufficient evidence to support the allegations against his clients. He emphasized that the case lacked any witnesses to corroborate the accusations and requested the annulment of the initial ruling. After reviewing the case, the Court of Appeals sided with the defense and acquitted the couple.

Separate Case: Former MP Anwar Al-Fikr Faces Legal Proceedings

In a separate matter, the Criminal Court has referred the case of former Member of Parliament Anwar Al-Fikr to the President of the Court of First Instance. This marks the second time the court has taken such action in relation to Al-Fikr’s case, in which he is accused of insulting the authority granted to His Highness the Amir.

Al-Fikr allegedly defamed the Amir's powers and spread false news that could potentially harm the state’s prestige and national interests. These actions were reportedly made during his campaign for the National Assembly elections.
