Suggestions are sought from Indian community members to boost our exports to Kuwait.  While our exports to Kuwait include food items, textiles, garments, electrical & engineering equipment, cars, trucks, buses, tyres, jewellery, handicrafts etc., our total exports to Kuwait have unfortunately remained sluggish during the last five years, hovering at about USD 1.2 billion per year.

2.      Specific inputs / recommendations are requested from our community by 25 April 2017 on the following:-

(i)           Export products or product groups of India which can be promoted to Kuwait;

(ii)         Direct measures (tax incentives, financial incentive, insurance, etc.)  which can be adopted by India to increase its exports to Kuwait; and

(iii)        Tariff and non-tariff barriers faced by Indian export products in Kuwait.

PR on Indian Community Welfare Fund

PR ON INDIAN COMMUNITY WELFARE FUND (ICWF)

          Indian Embassy has been providing assistance to distressed Indian nationals in Kuwait by providing air-tickets (on case to case basis) and token financial assistance of US $ 40 to each person for repatriation. Further, seriously ill Indian nationals are sent to India on either stretcher or wheel chair. The transportation of mortal remains is also provided.

2.      During calendar year 2016, Embassy has provided air-tickets, medical care and contingency travel expenses etc., to the distressed Indian nationals in Kuwait out of the ICWF, as under:

MADAD - Student Registration Module

Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi has in July 2016, launched a Student Registration Module on MADAD (Consular Services Management System) to have a centralized database of Indian students who are pursuing their higher studies in foreign colleges and universities abroad.  This database is to help Indian Missions and Posts in contacting and interacting with Indian students studying in foreign countries. 

2.        There are number of Indian students who are pursuing their higher studies in different universities in Kuwait.  Embassy of India would like to encourage these students to voluntarily register themselves on MADAD portal at https://portal1.madad.gov.in/AppConsular/welcomeLink.  This database will help Embassy in communicating with Indian students and disseminating information on policies and programmes of Government of India from time to time while remaining in close contact.

Aadhaar Card

Aadhaar Card

While “Aadhaar” has been made mandatory for filing of Income Tax Return as well as for seeking PAN (Permanent Account Number) cards, Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, New Delhi has now clarified that mandatory quoting of Aadhaar for PAN applications and filing Income Tax Return shall not apply to a Non-Resident Indian (NRI) as he/she is not eligible to get “Aadhaar”.  Only a resident Indian is entitled to an Aadhaar Card.

 

2.  Please note that Aadhaar Card is not mandatory for obtaining Driving License or a SIM card in India.  It is only one of several documents recognized for address proof of the applicant.

 

Recruitment of Indian Nurses

RECRUITMENT OF INDIAN NURSES FOR KUWAIT

Some private hospitals in Kuwait have made enquiries about recruitment of Indian nurses. It is reiterated that to streamline the recruitment of Indian nurses for work in Kuwait, the Government of India has restricted since May 2015 the recruitment of nurses through a few designated State-run recruiting agencies and placed nurses under the “ECR” regime so that emigration clearance through E-Migrate becomes mandatory for them for any employment in any of the 18 ECR countries (including Kuwait).

The Government of India has introduced with effect from 1st March 2017, two new categories of visas, titled “Intern visa” for foreigners intending to pursue internship in Indian companies, and, “Film Visa” for shooting of feature film or television/cinema and reality TV shows/commercial TV shows and TV serials by a foreign team.

4.         The Indian Passport & Visa Service Provider, M/s Cox & Kings Services (CKGS), Kuwait has been providing visa services to Kuwaiti nationals and expatriates through their three centers – Sharq (City), Fahaheel and Abbasiya (Jleeb Al-Showaikh). The above centre functions from 8 AM – 12 noon and from 4 PM - 8PM on all working days except on closed holidays on Fridays and Saturday, the working hours are from 4 PM-8PM.

The Government of India has formed India Development Foundation of Overseas Indians (IDF-OI), a not-for-profit Trust chaired by External Affairs Minister, Smt. Sushma Swaraj which enables Overseas Indians to contribute to social and development projects in India.

Indian Embassy Auditorium has now been fully repaired ─ all seats in the Auditorium have been newly upholstered, toilets have been modernized and other minor repairs undertaken.   The Auditorium is now available for community socio-cultural activities, as per the guidelines below:

Hala Festival 2017 - Participation of Indian Embassy

HALA FESTIVAL was inaugurated on 10 February 2017 with much zeal and enthusiasm at Salem Al-Mubarak Street, Salmiya.  Hala Festival is being annually organized in Kuwait since February 1999, mainly to promote tourism and culture. The Festival offers arts, sports, live carnival shows, entertainment events and display of vintage vehicles & motorbikes during the month. Kuwaiti Ministries, Government institutions and some Embassies had put up their stalls during the event.

Indian Embassy also participated in the Opening Ceremony. The Indian stall was exquisitely decorated with “Incredible India” posters and tourism material. India’s Bohra Band (Burhani Guards) held the audience spellbound by their performances the whole day.   Children from the Bohra community spread the message of importance of cleanliness in our daily lives by cleaning the surroundings during the event.

The Opening Ceremony witnessed, inter alia, a parade in which children from various Kuwaiti schools, some Kuwaiti Ministries and government agencies, Embassies etc. participated.  India’s Bohra Band (Burhani Guards) also took part in the parade.         Opening Ceremony

An initiative by Government of India

  The Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), a statutory body of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India has formulated a new scheme called ‘VAJRA’ (Visiting Advanced Joint Research) Faculty. VAJRA has been created to address the scientific challenges that India faces by utilizing the specialized knowledge and technical skills of overseas scientists.

2.     The VAJRA Faculty Scheme has been conceptualized to bring an international dimension to the R&D ecosystem of India by bringing together overseas scientists to the Indian research framework.  The Scheme also provides an opportunity to overseas Indian scientists, including PIOs/OCIs to positively contribute to the growth of R&D in India. Under VAJRA Faculty Scheme, scientists are offered adjunct / visiting faculty position to undertake high quality research in public funded Indian Institutions / Universities.

To facilitate international passengers about Baggage Rules, Government of India has released a multi-lingual mobile App “Indian Customs – Guide to Travellers”. The app, a first-of-its kind mobile application, contains a ready reckoner of the customs baggage rules and entitlements of passengers coming from various countries. It contains 24X7 contact details of customs officers of major Airports and provides information to users as per their need. After installation of this app on smart phones, it works in offline mode and is available on all three platforms, Android Play Store, Windows & Apple Store and serves as a Ready Reckoner of Customs Baggage Rules and Passengers Entitlements. New Delhi has recently launched AIRSEWA 

The Ministry of Civil Aviation, New Delhi has recently launched AIRSEWA – an initiative to provide a hassle-free travel experience to all air travellers in India.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has informed that all the stakeholders in the aviation sector, including airlines, airports, security, immigration, DGCA etc have been brought together on a single platform so that any passenger can get his/ her concern or grievance addressed in a time-bound manner. All issues on which a passenger can face any inconvenience, or requires information and guidance while planning for, during or on completion of the journey are covered. More than 200 Nodal Officers have been identified and trained in the overall aviation ecosystem for quality disposal of grievances received on AIRSEWA.

2.         Information on seasonal flight schedules, airline-wise or airport-wise shall also be available on AIRSEWA. It also incorporates the additional functionality of providing real time status of flights and the various passenger services available at various airports, including ways to avail the same. Ministry of Civil Aviation has requested use of AIRSEWA application by becoming an active AIRSEWA user and also spread the message to other stakeholders.

            The 68th Republic Day of India will be celebrated in Embassy premises with the hoisting of tri-colour National Flag at 9 AM by Ambassador. This will be followed by reading of the Hon’ble President’s message on this occasion. Thereafter, a few patriotic songs and an Open House reception will follow.

RBI to allow NRIs to exchange old currency notes till 30/06/2017

            The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has offered some relief to NRIs for exchanging old currency notes. All NRIs, who have been abroad during November 9, 2016 to December 30, 2016 can avail this facility till 30 June 2017. The limit for NRIs is Rs. 25,000/- per person. Indians living abroad can avail of this facility on submission of ID proof like “Aadhaar” Card and Permanent Account Number (PAN). No representations for depositing old notes on behalf of any third party will be accepted.

The Government of India has extended the date for registration as OCI card holders by erstwhile PIO cardholders till 30 June 2017. The conversion of PIO cards into OCI cards will be done free of charge for applications which are submitted till 30 June 2017.
