The Government of India has formed India Development Foundation of Overseas Indians (IDF-OI), a not-for-profit Trust chaired by External Affairs Minister, Smt. Sushma Swaraj which enables Overseas Indians to contribute to social and development projects in India.

To enhance Government’s outreach to Overseas Indians and inform them about various projects that they can support, IDF-OI is organizing a Google Hangout on 8th of March, 2017 at 1530 hrs IST (1300 hrs KWT time).

Indian Embassy Auditorium has now been fully repaired ─ all seats in the Auditorium have been newly upholstered, toilets have been modernized and other minor repairs undertaken.   The Auditorium is now available for community socio-cultural activities, as per the guidelines below:

(i) Use of Auditorium is available to only Indian Associations registered with Embassy;

(ii) An interested Indian Association may approach the Embassy for booking the Auditorium. Contact persons for this purpose are Shri B.S. (v)  In the event of cancellation of booking by Embassy of the Auditorium due to official exigency, the amount deposited with the Embassy will be refunded in full.

Hala Festival 2017 - Participation of Indian Embassy

HALA FESTIVAL was inaugurated on 10 February 2017 with much zeal and enthusiasm at Salem Al-Mubarak Street, Salmiya.  Hala Festival is being annually organized in Kuwait since February 1999, mainly to promote tourism and culture. The Festival offers arts, sports, live carnival shows, entertainment events and display of vintage vehicles & motorbikes during the month. Kuwaiti Ministries, Government institutions and some Embassies had put up their stalls during the event.

Indian Embassy also participated in the Opening Ceremony. The Indian stall was exquisitely decorated with “Incredible India” posters and tourism material. India’s Bohra Band (Burhani Guards) held the audience spellbound by their performances the whole day.   Children from the Bohra community spread the message of importance of cleanliness in our daily lives by cleaning the surroundings during the event.

The Opening Ceremony witnessed, inter alia, a parade in which children from various Kuwaiti schools, some Kuwaiti Ministries and government agencies, Embassies etc. participated.  India’s Bohra Band (Burhani Guards) also took part in the parade.         Opening Ceremony

Many visitors, especially children took the opportunity to take photographs posing in front of the Embassy stall and highly enjoyed the event.

India has further liberalized grant of visas to nationals of USA, Canada and Japan. Fee structure is as below:

 

I.        Visa fee for USA nationals

  (i)  Tourist visa   : Multiple Entry of ten years duration              -     KD 36

  (ii)  Business visa: Multiple Entry of one year duration              -      KD 51

  (iii)  Business visa: Multiple Entry of ten years duration            -      KD 76

 

II.       Visa fee for Canadian and Japanese nationals:

      (i) Tourist visa : Multiple Entry of six months duration          -      KD 14

      (ii) Tourist visa : Multiple Entry of one year duration             -      KD 22 

      (iii) Tourist visa: Multiple Entry of ten years duration            -      KD 42     

      (iv) Business visa: Multiple Entry of one year duration          -      KD 39

      (v)  Business visa: Multiple Entry of ten years duration       -      KD 64

 

III.      Visa fee for Kuwaiti nationals:

The Government of India has banned the use of Thuraya Phones in the country. All State Police Agencies have been asked to seize Thuraya/Irridium sets in India and take action as per provisions of the law.

VAJRA (Visiting Advanced Joint Research)  Faculty Scheme

An initiative by Government of India

  The Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), a statutory body of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India has formulated a new scheme called ‘VAJRA’ (Visiting Advanced Joint Research) Faculty. VAJRA has been created to address the scientific challenges that India faces by utilizing the specialized knowledge and technical skills of overseas scientists.

2.     The VAJRA Faculty Scheme has been conceptualized to bring an international dimension to the R&D ecosystem of India by bringing together overseas scientists to the Indian research framework.  The Scheme also provides an opportunity to overseas Indian scientists, including PIOs/OCIs to positively contribute to the growth of R&D in India. Under VAJRA Faculty Scheme, scientists are offered adjunct / visiting faculty position to undertake high quality research in public funded Indian Institutions / Universities.

To facilitate international passengers about Baggage Rules, Government of India has released a multi-lingual mobile App “Indian Customs – Guide to Travellers”. The app, a first-of-its kind mobile application, contains a ready reckoner of the customs baggage rules and entitlements of passengers coming from various countries. It contains 24X7 contact details of customs officers of major Airports and provides information to users as per their need. After installation of this app on smart phones, it works in offline mode and is available on all three platforms, Android Play Store, Windows & Apple Store and serves as a Ready Reckoner of Customs Baggage Rules and Passengers Entitlements. 2.        It is advised that all international passengers travelling to India from Gulf countries may wish to download this multi-lingual mobile app and may find it useful, since all contents of this app are available in four vernacular languages to provide real-time information to international travellers with regard to their travel related queries.

New Delhi has recently launched AIRSEWA 

The Ministry of Civil Aviation, New Delhi has recently launched AIRSEWA – an initiative to provide a hassle-free travel experience to all air travellers in India.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has informed that all the stakeholders in the aviation sector, including airlines, airports, security, immigration, DGCA etc have been brought together on a single platform so that any passenger can get his/ her concern or grievance addressed in a time-bound manner. All issues on which a passenger can face any inconvenience, or requires information and guidance while planning for, during or on completion of the journey are covered. More than 200 Nodal Officers have been identified and trained in the overall aviation ecosystem for quality disposal of grievances received on AIRSEWA.

2.         Information on seasonal flight schedules, airline-wise or airport-wise shall also be available on AIRSEWA. It also incorporates the additional functionality of providing real time status of flights and the various passenger services available at various airports, including ways to avail the same. Ministry of Civil Aviation has requested use of AIRSEWA application by becoming an active AIRSEWA user and also spread the message to other stakeholders.

3.         AIRSEWA can be accessed through its mobile application on both Android and IOS platforms and also through its web portal – www.airsewa.gov.in.

            The 68th Republic Day of India will be celebrated in Embassy premises with the hoisting of tri-colour National Flag at 9 AM by Ambassador. This will be followed by reading of the Hon’ble President’s message on this occasion. Thereafter, a few patriotic songs and an Open House reception will follow.

RBI to allow NRIs to exchange old currency notes till 30/06/2017

            The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has offered some relief to NRIs for exchanging old currency notes. All NRIs, who have been abroad during November 9, 2016 to December 30, 2016 can avail this facility till 30 June 2017. The limit for NRIs is Rs. 25,000/- per person. Indians living abroad can avail of this facility on submission of ID proof like “Aadhaar” Card and Permanent Account Number (PAN). No representations for depositing old notes on behalf of any third party will be accepted.

2.        This facility is at the RBI branches of Mumbai, New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and Nagpur.

Extended the date for registration as OCI card 

The Government of India has extended the date for registration as OCI card holders by erstwhile PIO cardholders till 30 June 2017. The conversion of PIO cards into OCI cards will be done free of charge for applications which are submitted till 30 June 2017.

                Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) is celebrated on 9th January every year to mark the contribution of Overseas Indian community in the development of India. Since 2003, every year the Government of India holds the PRAVASI BHARATIYA DIVAS in India to provide a platform to the overseas Indian community to engage with the Government and people of the land of their ancestors for mutually beneficial activities. All Indians residing in Kuwait have been contributing richly in their own way to the growing relations in all spheres between India and Kuwait.

2.      To mark the occasion, the Embassy of India will be commemorating Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2017 (PBD 2017) at its auditorium on Monday, 9 January 2017 from 1500-1730 hrs under the theme ' Redefining engagement with Indian Diaspora '. All non- resident and visiting Indians, PIO and OCI card holders and their friends in Kuwait are cordially invited to participate for a meaningful discussion on the issues related to the Indian Diaspora.

PRAVASI HARAYANA DIVAS

The Government of Haryana is celebrating its Golden Jubilee year from 1st November 2016. As a part of celebrations, Pravasi Haryana Divas is being organised on 10 & 11 January 2017 at Kingdom of Dreams in Gurugram (Previously Gurgaon),  just a day after the Pravasi Bhartiya Divas in Bengaluru from 7-9 January 2016.

2.       The objective of the Pravasi Haryana Divas is to recognise the achievements of NRIs and to harness their energies in the future development of Haryana. This initiative will include sectoral sessions, technical presentations, cultural evening followed by dinner.

3.       Members of the Indian community, specially those belonging to Haryana in Kuwait are encouraged to participate in the event on 11 January 2017 at Gurgaon. Multilingual Helpline in India

          For the benefit of foreign tourists visiting India, Government of India  has  introduced a 24X7 Toll Free Multi-Lingual Tourism Helpline , available in several international languages, namely, Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. This service is available on toll free number 1800111363 or on a short code 1363 and operational 24X7 (365 days in year) offering a “multi-lingual help desk”. The objective of this multi-lingual help lines is to provide information relating to travel and tourism in India to the domestic and international tourists and send alerts to concerned authorities during the time of distress, if any, while travelling in India.

2.       The Embassy advise to all tourists travelling from Kuwait to India to avail this facility in international  language of their choice by using Multi-Lingual Tourism helpline so as to make the visit safe and enjoyable.
