ICSK Khaitan - Organizes Lecture On Food Science and Nutrition
ICSK Staff and Students’ Welfare Committee organized a lecture on food and nutrition at ICSK Khaitan on 26th Oct. 2015. The learned resource person for to speak on the topic was Dr. Alfred Anderson, Associate Professor -Department of Science and Nutrition from College of Science, Kuwait University. The session started at 8:00 am with the welcome speech by the Principal Mr. K.G.Shirsath. Mrs. Farah, a PAC member welcomed the guest with a bouquet of flowers. Mr. Alfred Anderson was also presented a memento by Honorary Board of Trustee from Khaitan School, Mr. K.V. Nizar.
As we all live in a world of lifestyle diseases and innumerable health problems, it is the need of the time to make our younger generation aware of a healthy food style to their lives free of diseases. The lecture mainly focused on food science which teaches us to make the best use of our food resources and to minimize waste. It is an integral part of modern life to know the ingredients of food items which we consume in daily life in order to remain healthy and prevent most of the life style diseases. It was the most suitable for the age group of students as it is vital to know now a days that food is a medicine for a hungry person whereas the same is poisonous for a gluttonous person. If we cater to our uncontrollable taste buds, we shall surely be asking for trouble.
The highlight of the session was the chemistry behind the food items that is breaking down of components into different forms while it is processed and changed to a complete and edible state. The lecture was followed by the interactive session where the students’ questions were answered informatively. The session came to an end with the vote of thanks by Ms Midhuna Mathew of class VIII.
