For the first time, the Ministry of Electricity and Water is inviting businesses and individuals to apply for licenses to install electric car chargers in their vicinity.

A local Arabic daily reported that this step is consistent with the state's tendency to encourage electric cars as a means of reducing pollution from automobile exhausts. According to the ministry, the first requirement is an official letter from the company where the electric car was purchased, proving ownership of the property by the person applying for the installation of the car charger.

Sources noted that the ministry letter must confirm that the person requesting to increase the electricity supply to his home for the installation of the electric charger must prove he owns an electric car so the power cannot be used for other purposes, emphasizing that each individual or company has the right to boost the power to up to 20 kilowatts.
