Selena bags maiden women’s title
Maharishi Vidya Mandir’s S. Selena Deepti, all of 15 years, bagged her maiden women’s title in her first final with a hard-fought 4-3 (11-6, 11-8, 11-6, 12-14, 7-11, 8-11, 11-6) win over Amrutha Pushpak, the top seed, in the sixth Sonplas State-ranking table tennis tournament here on Sunday.
Leading 3-0, Selena allowed Amrutha to level at 3-3. In the seventh and deciding game, Selena took a 7-3 lead but panicked a bit. She, however, regrouped on time to script a memorable victory.
In the men’s summit clash, Sivananda Seshadri of Food Corporation of India posted a facile 4-0 (11-2, 14-12, 11-9, 12-10) win over S. Nikhil of Chennai TT Foundation.
