Image 1Bhavans Smart Indian School, Kuwait, observed World Cancer Awareness Month with a thought-provoking and compassionate Cancer Awareness Session held on 15th October 2025 in the school auditorium. The event aimed to foster awareness, empathy, and collective responsibility toward the cause of cancer prevention and support. The program commenced with Yousef of Grade 7 Taurus reciting verses from the Holy Quran, followed by a one-minute silence in memory of those who lost their battle with cancer. Crysta of Grade 8 Taurus skillfully hosted the event as the Master of Ceremony, while Sara of Grade 8 Aries delivered a heartfelt welcome address, emphasizing the importance of awareness, compassion, and the unwavering spirit of cancer survivors.

The school had the honor of hosting two eminent personalities - Dr. Mebu Joseph Thomas, a dedicated Surgical Oncologist at Hussain Makki Al Jumma Centre for Specialized Surgery for Breast Cancer, Kuwait Cancer Control Centre, and Mr. Biju Cherian, a cancer survivor and Strategic Business Director at Alyasra Fashion. With over two decades of experience in business management and a strong background in digital transformation and branding, Mr. Cherian is a Harvard Business School and Wharton-certified executive, currently pursuing expertise in Artificial Intelligence. The event was graced by the presence of Vice Principal Ms. Bhavitha Bright and Administrative Manager Ms. Amira Bendary, whose encouragement and leadership added warmth to the occasion.

Delivering an inspiring keynote address, Mr. Biju Cherian shared his remarkable journey of resilience and recovery, reminding students that “failure is not when you fall, but when you don’t get up again.” He urged the audience to support those battling cancer through empathy and respect - by being present, listening actively, and avoiding insensitive remarks. Mr. Cherian also shared six essential life hacks to build mental and physical strength: start each day afresh, get regular health check-ups, eat nutritious food, raise awareness, stop body shaming, and appreciate life by living it to the fullest. Dr. Mebu Thomas addressed the students on the importance of early detection and timely medical intervention, stressing that modern healthcare advancements have made early diagnosis the key to survival. He encouraged students to remain vigilant and health-conscious, emphasizing that “no symptom should ever be ignored.” School Counselor Ms. Anju Jacob expressed gratitude to both speakers and reiterated the session’s key takeaways - awareness, empathy, and proactive health measures. She appreciated the valuable insights shared by the guests, which inspired students to approach life with courage and compassion.

In recognition of their contributions, Vice Principal Ms. Bhavitha Bright felicitated Dr. Mebu Thomas and Mr. Biju Cherian, lauding them as “true superheroes whose strength and dedication inspire countless lives.” The session concluded with a touching Vote of Thanks delivered by Ahmed of Grade 10 Aries, who left the audience with a powerful reminder: “Each day is a chance to live meaningfully and with gratitude.” The Cancer Awareness Session at Bhavans Smart Indian School truly embodied the essence of unity, compassion, and hope - reminding everyone that together, awareness can save lives and empathy can heal hearts.
