IISM – IDF HEALTH CAMP

healthIISM junior section outreached its student community's health concerns by holding a health camp in the campus, a hugely successful event on its maiden attempt, on 5 November 2016. The health camp was a joint venture with Indian Doctors Forum (IDF), Kuwait.

IDF is a nonprofit organisation that caters and hosts assistance in various arena of medical services. The team of doctors headed by Dr Abhay Patwari (Anaesthetist), president IDF and Dr Surendar Nayak (Histopathologist), secretary IDF, Dr Rajendra Mishra (Pediatrician), joint gen. secretary IDF with members Dr Umesh Verma, Dr Umar Tac, Dr Mohan Ram, Dr P N S Menon and Dr Syeda Akhtar (Pediatricians), Dr Amir Ahmed and Dr Abdul Raoof (Physicians), Dr Sreeja and Dr Jaitha (Gynaecologists), Dr Amit (ENT) and Dr Yashpal (Dermatologist), extended their valuable services to IISM students.

Students and staff could avail consultations with the team of doctors from the department of pediatrics, ENT, ophthalmology, dermatology, gynaecology and general medicine. Shifa Al Jazeera clinic lent their support in eye screening. Members of medical emergency services offered aid with preliminary checkup such as height, weight, temperature, blood sugar and pressure.

The health camp was inaugurated and declared open by Mr Malayil Moosa Koya, Director IISM and Mr F M Basher Ahmed, Principal IISM delivered the welcome address. Dr Abhay Patwari in his speech acknowledged the onset of the camp on such a mega scale. The camp functioned systematically with good turnout of more than 300 students.

Although there were some rare cases that needed further investigation, it was noted that the general health of students were well maintained, credit goes to the health and hygiene taken care at home and school.

Mementos were presented by the management to IDF members and Shifa Al Jazeera as a token of appreciation for their co-operation, precious time and services. Eye screening team and members of Emergency Medical Services were presented with certificates of appreciation in the valedictory program. As we bid farewell, a special memento was awarded to Dr Abdul Raoof, honouring his twenty years of valuable service to the Kuwaiti and Indian community. Dr Rajendra Mishra, assistant secretary, IDF addressed the gathering with appreciation on the initiation of the health camp and the utmost care taken in organising it. He added that it was a pleasure to be part of the service. Faculty were applauded for their hospitality.
