ICSK CONDUCTS 40TH ANNUAL SPORTS MEET
The Indian Community School Kuwait organised a spectacular Ruby Year Sports Day on 28th November, 2014 at the Keifan Stadium. The 40th Annual Sports day was a huge success marked by immaculate planning and flawless execution. The enthusiastic participation of students was cheered by the parents. Indian Ambassador to Kuwait H.E. Shri Sunil Jain, the Chief Guest addressed the gathering and declared the meet open.Honorary Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees Mr. Bobby Mathew, Honorary Secretary Mr. Vijay Karayil, Honorary Joint-Secretaries Dr. KamleshKumari and Mr. George Mathew, Head of the Sports Committee Mr. Binoy Thomas, other honorary members of the Board, parent representatives, Principals, Vice-Principals and staff members graced the event. Invited distinguished personalities of the Indian diaspora in Kuwait brought magnificence of the occasion.The presence of special invitee, MLA of Ernakulam, Kerala Adv. Benny Behanan added to the grandeur of the event. He addressed the gathering and also gave away prizes to the winners.
The programme began with the recitation of the verses from the Holy Quran followed by the National Anthems of Kuwait and India. Hoisting of the school flag was followed by the march - past of the four Houses - Shanti, Seva, Sahyog and Santosh. The best athletes of the ICSK took turns to carry the torch to light the sports flame. The Principal of Khaitan Branch and the coordinator of the event Mr. K. G. Shirsath welcomed the gathering. Mr. Bobby Mathew delivered the presidential address.The impressive band display delighted the audience. It was a day of celebration of sports and sportsmanship at the ICSK. Athletes were awarded prizes for sporting excellence in the various intra and inter-school events. The under-14 Chess team which had represented ICSK in the National sports meet in India wasawarded trophies. This year saw many ICSK students being selected for various international events. These sportsmen were given special awards. The sports day is the culmination of the athletics events which are conducted house-wise at the four branches of the school. The athletes also competed on that day for various track events and represented the four houses Shanti, Seva, Sahyog and Santosh. There was a tough competition and the students vigorously cheered their own house athletes.The athletics events were interspersed with well-coordinated, colourful drill displays of the four branches.
The gathering also paid homage to the Australian cricketer Phillip Hughes who passed away recently after being hit while playing.
Finally, Ms. Janet Florine D’Souza of Class XI-E was adjudged the ‘Best Sports Star’ among girls and Master Craig Leroy Rodrigues of XI-J was awarded for being the ‘Best Sports Star’ among the boys for the year 2014-15. Shanti House finished first with highest score for sports events and Santosh House was the runners-up. Shanti house also won the march-past and Santosh house was the runners-up for this event too. ICSK Khaitan students were adjudged the best for their drill display and ICSK Amman finished second. The event concluded as Principal ICSK Senior Dr. V. Binumon delivered the vote of thanks.
