ICSK JUNIOR CELEBRATES TEACHERS’ DAY
‘Good teacher is like a candle; it consumes itself to light the way for others’
The Indian Community School Kuwait, Junior branch, held a special assembly on 9th September, 2014, to celebrate Teachers’ Day. Teachers’ Day is celebrated all over India on 5th September every year as a dedication to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was a zealous advocate of education and one of the greatest scholars and teachers of all times.
The assemblies commenced with the recitation of verses from the holy Quran, followed by the school prayer.
‘A teacher takes a hand, opens a mind and touches the heart’; was the apt thought for the day delivered by Head Girl Ms. Julia Ann Powell. A tableau depicting the pioneers in the field of education, dance, music and sports field was portrayed with splendor and gaiety depicting the glorious culture of India. A melodious song echoing the theme of the event was rendered by the school choir. A visual delight of the special assembly was a group dance presented in unison and rhythm.
Principal in-charge Mrs. Sherly Dennis, in her address, told the students that 5th September every year is celebrated as Teachers Day as a mark of respect to the second President of Independent India Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. She appreciated the assembly in-charges and the wonderful performance of all the participants. She also highlighted the recent historic address by Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi to students of India on 5th September 2014. Mrs. Sherly Dennis extended her heartfelt greetings and gratitude to the teaching fraternity of ICSK Junior and applauded their dedication and sincerity.
ONAM Onam is a harvest festival and is celebrated with joy and enthusiasm all over the state by people of all communities. According to a popular legend, the festival is celebrated to welcome King Mahabali, whose spirit is said to visit Kerala at the time of Onam.
Rich cultural heritage of Kerala comes out in its best form and spirit during the ten day long festival. It is indeed a treat to be a part of the grand carnival. People of Kerala make elaborate preparations to celebrate it in the best possible manner.
Another enchanting feature of Onam is Vallamkali, the Snake Boat Race, held on the river Pampa. It is a colourful sight to watch the decorated boat oared by hundreds of boatmen amidst chanting of songs and cheering by spectators.
