Reports in Annahar daily indicate that the Ministry of Finance has vehemently denied rumors spread on social media platforms about the cancellation of consumer and personal loans; urging the public to obtain information from its official Twitter and Instagram accounts. After watching a video clip of some activists claiming a decision to cancel the above would be issued soon, the ministry confirmed it is keen on taking legal action against anyone who spreads false news.

Social media went viral with the mention of the loans. As far as activists are concerned, the ministry has begun procedures to determine the number of citizens with consumer loans and personal loans so that the total amount - estimated at KD2 billion - can be determined.
