S.Surya Prakash

Mr.S.SuryaPrakash, son of Mr.S.V.Subba Rao (a retired Officer from Coromandel Fertilizers Ltd, Hyderabad), hails from Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh.  Surya  was born in Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and when he was nine years old his father was relocated to Hyderabad on promotion.

Surya did his schooling in St. John’s Church High School, Secunderabad. It was here he was spotted by his English teachers as an eloquent public speaker. He was much sought after for compering events in his school for his voice pitch and for his eloquence in English language. Surya graduated in Metallurgical Engineering from the prestigious Indian Institute of Sciences, Bangalore in 1984.   He worked in various sectors of engineering, petrochemicals, fertilizer and refinery plants before joining Kuwait Oil Company in the year 2004.

He started his service career first working as Project Assistant in Govt. of India sponsored project on Development of High Strength Aluminum –Lithium Alloys wherein he gained rich experience as a project leader.

Then he moved over to Pune in 1987 to work as Senior Engineer in Bajaj Tempo Ltd. But soon he had to return to his home town Hyderabad due to some pressing family problems. Owing to these problems he took up odd jobs small private companies in and around Hyderabad, before his hard work paid off and he got a permanent job in Bharat Dynamics Ltd, in Hyderabad as a Metallurgical Engineer.

He had seven successful years of service in that company. In that time his elder brother (Late SPV Raja Rao, who educated him with his meager income), expired. Due to the financial crisis Surya was forced to look out for foreign assignments and he landed himself a job in Libya.

It was before leaving to Libya that Surya found in himself the self-confidence and a desire to do become someone. Libya was always a country worth avoiding due to many social and economic problems. His friends and relatives advised him against moving to Libya and that too leaving a cool and comfort government job.

But he was determined to help his family out of financial crisis and from then on never looked back. After a five year stint in Libya and when his family was financially sound he returned to India and started looking out for assignments in Gulf Countries.

Very soon he did get an offer from a  company in Kuwait. As time passed by Surya knew that he was not getting salary and perks commensurate with his experience. So he began looking for jobs in other companies in Kuwait itself much to the surprise of his colleagues who advised him not to do so since the contracting company will never ever release him.

At this time Surya again depended on his self- confidence and was determined to prove his detractors wrong. So he did and within two years he was on his way to a new job with more salary and better perks. He always says, “Do what your heart says irrespective of what others say” he is a firm believer in the famous statement, “Providence favors the Bold”

When he did settle in his job in Kuwait Oil Company as Corrosion Engineer he found time to pursue his childhood passion – public speaking. Very soon he enrolled himself as a member in English Speaking club in Kuwait called Desert Pioneers Toastmasters Club.

His eloquence and his leadership qualities were soon observed by other Toastmasters and he went on to become one of the most sought after Toastmasters in Kuwait. He conducted many Toastmaster events with originality and innovations.

Surya still had the yearning to do something for the society through talents he had honed in Toastmasters. So he ventured on to become the mentor of children clubs called Gavel clubs wherein he delivers motivational workshops to children based on Toastmasters guidelines.

He regularly contributes articles to in English to Indian web sites and also works a free-lance editor and interviewer for some of the Indian based web sites and organizations. He has delivered motivational workshops on Stress Management, Public Speaking Skills to various Alumni associations in Kuwait.

He is a calm person and is very passionate in about whatever he does.His mere presence acts as a motivation to us say some of his colleagues.

Surya is married to Mrs.(Dr.) Ramani, a registrar in Gynecology and Obstetrics Department of Farwaniya Hospital and is blessed with a son and a daughter - Srikar, studying Mechanical Engineering and Energy Systems at VIT, Vellore and Diskhita, studying her sixth grade in DPS, Ahmadi.

Her daughter is a talented  dancer in Bahratnatyam, Kuchpudi and Kathak which she is still learning. His wife though is a working professional is an excellent home maker and for her social work starts from her home. She is a staunch believer in Mother Teresa words, “ If you cannot love a person whom we can see we cannot love God whom we cannot see.

Surya is a strong supporter of multi verse theory that relates to origin of universe and life. He is, a proud and patriotic Indian, who writes patriotic articles. He is very enthusiastic tic when it comes to enhance India’s image on the world scene.

In his own words, “It should be in our hearts to serve our motherland without seeking accolades and awards. This is true patriotism”.
