HAL delivers Chandrayaan-2 orbiter craft module structure

Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) delivered the 'Orbiter Craft Module Structure' in support of Indian Space Research Organisation's (ISRO) big-ticket Chandrayaan-2 programme.

HAL Chairman and Managing Director T Suvartna Raju said the company has been supporting ISRO throughout its journey.

'We have provided hardware for all satellites of ISRO starting from the SLV. The Orbiter Craft Module was delivered to ISRO Satellite Centre recently. It is in the three-tonne category and made out of a central composite cylinder, shear webs and deck panels,' said Raju.

Chandrayaan-2 is a two-module configuration spacecraft comprising the 'Orbiter Craft' and the 'Lander Craft'. It is scheduled to be launched by a Geo-Stationary Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV-MKII).

HAL said its association with the ISRO programmes dates back to early 70s. HAL gave key inputs to build satellites Bhaskara-1, Apple and Satellite Launch Vehicle.

'Our dedicated Aerospace Division in Bengaluru caters to all requirements of ISRO. In the last couple of years the activities between the two organisations have increased,' said an official.
