It was once again time for celebrations at Gulfmart, the country’s fastest growing retail chain. However, this time around, it was not for opening yet another outlet to their growing chain of branches in the country, rather it was to celebrate their country manager, T.A. Remesh winning the 2010 Garshom Special Award.
The award was in recognition of Mr. Remesh’s innovative leadership and exceptional contributions to society and reflected the numerous corporate social responsibility ventures undertaken by Gulfmart over the years.
Speaking on winning the Garshom Special Award for 2010, Mr. Remesh said, “I feel honored in receiving this award and would like to thank Garshom Infomedia, the selection committee and everyone out there for this prestigious award. However, I am just a figurehead, and more than recognition of my individual contributions, this award is an acknowledgement of the people who dedicatedly work behind the scenes to ensure the success of various community ventures we undertake.”
He added, “Whether we are aware of it, or not, every one of us has a core set of personal values that guide and motivate us in life. When we become totally committed and implement our personal values in every detail of our lives, great things can be achieved — as my fellow award winners have shown through their life and work. I feel privileged to share my award with such a distinguished group of people as the winners of the 2010 Garshom Awards.”
A colorful Garshom Award Nite, held at the Indian Community School Kuwait, Salmiya campus, on Friday, 27 May, 2011, honored the recipients of the 8th Garshom Awards. The annual Garshom Awards, instituted in 2003 by Garshom Infomedia, honor successful and eminent non-resident Indians for their dedication, innovation, leadership and outstanding contribution to social causes and welfare of the community. Dr. Sunitha Krishnan (Hyderabad), V.C. Praveen (Chennai), S. Ahmed (Trivandrum), Sageer Trikaripur (Kuwait), Remesh T.A. (Kuwait) and the All Malaysia Malayalee Association (AMMA) were selected as recipients for the Garshom Awards 2010.
The former Chairperson of Indian Rajya Sabha, Dr. Najma Heptullah, inaugurated the 8th Garshom Award Nite program. Dr. Najma Heptullah gave away the awards. Jacob Channapetta, Chairman of the 8th Garshom Award Nite organizing committee and Jins Paul, Managing Editor Garshom Infomedia Ltd., welcomed the distinguished guests and honorable awardees.
The Garshom Awards recognize the valuable contributions of NRIs in enriching lives of their compatriots as well as strengthening relations between India and their country of Residence.
The input by Indians in Kuwait in strengthening bilateral relations between Kuwait and India was highlighted by His Excellency Jassem Mohammad Al-Kharafi, Speaker of the National Assembly of Kuwait, at a meeting during which he welcomed the distinguished Indian guests to Kuwait and congratulated the awardees of the Garshom Awards
