Thalir Thiran Thittam’ (TTT) & Educational Experiments and Talks by Dr. Sugata Mitra

Thalir Thiran Thittam’ (TTT) & Educational Experiments and Talks by Dr. Sugata Mitra

1.      “Thalir Thiran Thittam”  of Aparajitha Foundation, Madurai:

It is a fact that the education system we have does not equip the students with soft skills expected by the Corporate world and consequently, they are often found to be “unemployable”. This lack was keenly felt by Shri.Bharath Krishna Sankar, CEO of Aparajitha Corporate Services, Madurai, a firm that specializes in providing HR and Compliances related KPO services to big corporates and to address this gap, he set up Aparajitha Foundation and with the help of his mother Smt.Durga Krishnamurthy, a Teacher by profession, and other experts, Foundation has formulated ‘Thalir Thiran Thittam’ (TTT).

‘Thalir Thiran Thittam’ (TTT) was envisioned to support students with consistent and persistent inputs of skills and attitudes, which are extremely important in life, but not covered by the regular curriculum, over a period of time with an ideal of creating a ‘transformational change through awareness’. While the world of work is increasingly becoming a level playing field, students coming from a less privileged social or economic background have an initial disadvantage in coping with the others which places them with a huge handicap as they begin their career. Unless the students prepare themselves sufficiently both psychologically and socially, they would be at a loss to face the ‘real world’.  Students have huge potential. While regular curriculum equips them with knowledge and hard skills, it does not cover the soft skills relating to both emotional intelligence and social intelligence which become the deciding factor to move ahead in a competitive world.

‘Thalir Thiran Thittam’ bridges the gap between students from a less privileged social or economic background rural & others from privileged sections of our society.

It is based on the philosophy: "You give a man a fish, you feed him once; Teach him fishing, you feed him for a life time"

Students from Classes VII to XII (7th to 12th for 6 consecutive years) are helped to understand & assimilate key learning points through active participatory learning, rather than normal instructional methodology, with the aid of games, story-telling, audio-visuals, story-telling, multiple choice questions, role play  etc. so as to make the learning enjoyable, engaging and consistent (Education + Entertainment). Totally 120 lessons are taught at the rate of 20 lessons per year, as per attached class wise matrix & topics wise matrix.

Currently it is being implemented in  1044 schools in Gujarath with active support of Government of Gujarath. Unfortunately, though the 120 DVDs & Facilitators Guide Book have been distributed to over 4500 Government schools, only about 800 schools are continuing with the implementation, with varying commitment & intensity, thanks to peculiar politics unique to Tamil Nadu.

For more info on ‘Thalir Thiran Thittam’ (TTT) , please spare just 18 minutes of your time to watch the introductory video on TTT:https://www.aparajitha.org/Video.html and please read further at: https://www.aparajitha.org/Projects.html

The Facilitators Guide can be viewed at: https://www.aparajitha.org/Video.html  & Feedback from Parents & Teachers can be viewed at: https://www.aparajitha.org/Video.html

All this is free of cost to the schools!.  Besides commitment to implement TTT, only Audio-Visual equipment to play the DVDs (DVD Player + TV or a computer) and making available few teachers (typically 2-3) to be trained (training takes only 2 hours) as Facilitators by Aparajitha Foundation are needed from the schools.

In a world that is shrinking day by day & all businesses going global, in one way or the other, unless students are trained in soft skills, they will remain ‘unemployable’ despite their educational qualifications.

For the sake of future of students in your schools, I sincerely request you to seriously consider implementing TTT in your schools.

Please get in touch with Mr. Ariaravelan, Manager, Aparajitha Foundation, Madurai on his mob: +91 96009 89209 & Email Ids:ari@aparajitha.com ; aparajithafoundations@gmail.com & info@aparajitha.org or Mr.T.A.Padmanabhan, Head - Education Initiatives, Aparajitha Foundation, Chennai on his mob: +91 822 000 4140, +91 984 104  6118 & Email Id: padhu@aparajitha.com

Aparajitha Foundation can help schools implement TTT in all our schools, NOT ONLY in Tamil Nadu, but also in all states across India.

I hope schools will make good use of this great opportunity to equip their students with much required soft skills.

Aparajitha is keen to associate with schools run with dedication & hope schools will come forward to make good use of their offer.

I would love to see all schools all over India making good use of TTT.

2.      Educational Experiments and Talks by Dr. Sugata Mitra:

I would like to request all teachers working in our school(s) (if they have not seen them already) to watch these following videos on experiments and talks by Dr. Sugata Mitra in Newcastle University:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W0isg00sv0E

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f0QyyndU71g

I am sure they will be thrilled to watch them & derive much inspiration from them.

Just leaving of couple of PCs (with right materials loaded on them) for playing around by kids on their own can work wonders.

The biggest issue faced by most school is lack of good teachers. Each child will have to grow at his own pace and left to themselves they are sure to surprise us pleasantly. We need to develop teachers who can kindle the learning interest and tap the inquisitiveness of the children. It is hoped that at least some teachers will get some insights as to how children learn & derive inspiration from Dr. Sugata Mitra.

Warm Regards,
