The Commerce Department of FAIPS - KITCO FACTORY VISIT

The Commerce Department of FAIPS organized an educational trip to the KITCO Factory for the Commerce as well as the Humanities students of classes 11, 12 and IGCSE on 4th& 5th May, 2014 .The tour was organized to make the students aware of the way a manufacturing unit functions. The students were excited and eager to learn the processes undertaken in manufacturing of a product in a factory. They were given an opportunity to understand a factory set up and how the ‘pre-production’ , ‘production’ and ‘packaging’ happens in real life.
The overall objective of the visit was to have an understanding of the actual manufacturing at a factory level. The KITCO plant is located in Sabhan. Kuwait Indo Trading Company is a famous company manufacturing eatables such as chips and various bakery items like biscuits etc.KITCO was established in the year 1962 by Mr. Jassim Al-Wazzan and Mr. B.R. Oberoi. The original KITCO factory is located next the Americana factory also located in Sabhan. The students visited a plant that comprised of the chips as well as the biscuits production areas which had been set up almost 35 years ago. At present, there are approximately 600 employees and workers in the plant.
The students were first provided caps before entering the factory in order to maintain the hygiene standards and then, guided through the factory by the Public Relations in charge. The entire process from the selection of the potatoes to the packaging of the chips was very well explained and elaborated. Questions regarding the process were welcomed as well. The KITCO Company believes in providing top most services and food products to their customers and this means best quality food products. The company strictly follows all the rules and regulations formulated by the Ministry of Health and also follows the ISO standards. The food products contain no artificial coloring and only natural ingredients are used. With the growing concern for the environment,KITCO is certainly doing its bit towards energy conservation as the company recently invested in new technology which utilized less power but gives more output. As the Ministry of Health is very strict regarding proper recycling of water, new filtration systems have been installed and the water has to be treated and approved by the Ministry before it is turned into sewage.
It was indeed a very informational and educational trip for all the students, as they learnt about the entire production process and how it takes an entire team and a plant full of hard working workers to produce the chips that everyone loves to eat. The students learnt about how everything is efficiently managed in a factory, and also about how necessary it is to follow all the rules and regulations to provide best quality products. It was certainly a trip that the students will treasure forever.
