CBSE Chess tournament inauguration at ICSK
ICSK HOLDS UNIQUE INAUGURATION CEREMONY FOR CBSE KUWAIT-
CLUSTER CHESS CHAMPIONSHP
The Indian Community School Kuwait held a unique ceremony on 18th May, 2014, to inaugurate the 16th CBSE Kuwait Cluster Chess Tournament, 2014-15, for girls. The distinctive function was held at the ICSK Senior Branch auditorium with Rev. Sr. Serena AC, CBSE Kuwait Cluster- chapter convener, as the Chief Guest. Mr. Vijay Karayil, Honorary Secretary to the ICSK Board of Trustees;Mr. Binoy Thomas, Honorary member to the Board; Mr. K. G Gangadhar, Principal of ICSK Khaitan; Dr. V. Binumon, Principal of Senior Branch;the Physical Education teachers of all the participating schools graced the occasion and the eager participants were clearly the stars of the event.
Dr. V Binumon welcomed the guests and the participants. He coined an apt acronym for CHESS- Chess Helps Every Student Succeed. He also outlined that the taking up the game of Chess benefits the students vis-à-vis patience, better attention spans, better concentration, persistence towards goal, initiative and determination among others.
In the Presidential Address, Mr. Vijay Karayil informed the audience that Chess is an ancient game that had originated in India as ‘Chaturanga’ and later evolved to its present form. He further added that the ICSK management was extremely happy on hosting the CBSE Kuwait-Cluster Chess tournament for the first time and congratulated the Principals and Physical Education teachers for the effort.
The Chief Guest Sr. Serena formally inaugurated the programme and advised all students to take risks in life because as a result of that risk, a person may emerge a winner or may lose. She further added that a winner can become a leader and the person who was not successful can become a guide. In either situation the risk-taker wins.
Mr. Binoy Thomasfelicitated the guests and wished the very best to all the participants. He also expressed his joy on hosting the event.
The programme concluded with Mr. KG Shirsath’s vote of thanks wherein he thanked the participating schools, physical education teachers and the participants.
The CBSE Kuwait Cluster chess tournament, 2014-15, for girls began immediately after the conclusion of the inauguration ceremony.
