Thump nail potoMrs. Asha Sharma is the Principal of a CBSE school in Kuwait, popularly known as Indian Learners Own Academy.

She has done Post graduation from Delhi University in Two Subjects - Political Science and History after completing her B.A Honours in Political science from Kamala Nehru College of Delhi University.

1She did her B. Ed from Central Institute of Education, Delhi University. Her flair for writing took her to Rajendra Prasad Institute of Mass Communication, Delhi, where from she did her diploma in journalism. She has authored 17 text books and revised a number of books for famous publishers.

Her thirst for knowledge made her explore more grounds for enrichment in education hence she graduated from Principal’s Training college (PTC) in the year 2009 by earning an expertise in the courses like Instructional Supervision, Creating and administering an effective school, Leadership in group dynamics and curriculum development in an international school at U.K. and U.S. A. As learning has no terminals, so her quest for knowledge is still on.

2 EBA Award 2017Besides this she has written extensively for popular dailies in India like Indian Express, Hindustan Times and penned a regular column on education for “The times”. She wrote many features to aid and advise board examinees.

She not only organized but took many workshops for better teaching of social studies. She was the first CBSE 3Counsellor in Kuwait for board examinees which she carried on from 1998 to 2012.

 Asha Sharma has rendered nearly 43 years of service in the field of education as a teacher and administrator. She started her career at Mother’s International School in 1977, Delhi where she worked for a year.She served Delhi Public School Mathura Road, Ranipur, Noida for 17 and a half years 4 award from presidentin administrative capacities of Headmistress, HOD, Center Superintendent, House warden, PGT humanities etc.

She became the Founder Principal of three schools in Kuwait namely Indian Central School in 1994, where she worked for 12 years, Indian Educational School popularly known as Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan in 2006, where she worked for 4 years and Indian Learners Own Academy in 2010, which is her own school.

She has also worked as Visiting Professor of Madurai Kamraj University for B.Ed. and M.A. Pol. Sc. Courses and organized a number of workshops and in-5 CBSE Mentor Award from Mrservice training programmes not only for teachers in Kuwait but for the whole gulf region. The first Kuwait Chapter’s sports meet was organized under her convenorship.

Indian Learners Own Academy is her own creation which changed her profile into an educationist cum entrepreneur. Her school became a pioneer CBSE international school, when she took the challenge of introducing only CBSE 7international curriculum for the entire school from the very inception and did not adopt the national curriculum of CBSE for any of its classes. But this course was warped up by CBSE Board in 1018 so now the school follows main curriculum.

9She joined the Gulf council in the year 1995, when her school was inspected by two leading persons from the council. In the very next year she received an invitation to host the 11th conference of the council, which she readily accepted and roped in all the Indian school to the council and hosted that successfully. 

pic3She did not accept any post at the council in that year as she felt that she was quite new to this educational body but became the first convener of the newly formed Kuwait Chapter in 1998 and remained on this position for two consecutive years.

She hosted the 17th conference of the council and was made secretary of the council in 2005 and in the ensuing conference of the council; she was unanimously made the Chairperson of the council.  She organized a number of workshops as secretary and Chairperson of the council and managed the work of council diligently during her tenure.

Mrs. Sharma is the member of CBSE affiliation committee. Mrs. Sharma was also given the responsibility to inspect two schools for up gradation (Don Bosco, Kuwait) and affiliation (Kuwait Indian School, Kuwait) respectively by CBSE board.  

She was Awarded ‘Dedicated Teachers Award’ by Lions Club, Gaziabad, U.P.  She adorned a big feather in her cap when she was felicitated with the ‘National Teachers Award’ by the President of India in the year 2007 for her meritorious services in the field of education. 

picWhatever she has accomplished and earned in the field of education, has become a propelling force to do better in this field day in and day out.

 She is the member of mentoring and monitoring committee of CBSE to aid and assist four schools in the Gulf. Later four schools in Kuwait were given her for mentoring.On Seeing the quality of her work as mentor, she was given Mentor Award by CBSE with the gracious hands of HRD Minister then, Mrs. Smiriti Irani.Besides this she is advisor to the management of Scholars International School, Doha.

pic2From October 1014, in charge of Nodal Center at Indian Learners Own Academy for checking the evidences of assessment of classes 9 and 10 of schools in the gulf region.

Received International Elets Award-2016 on the 7th International Education Summit at Delhi on 6th August 2016 at Hotel Meridian in Delhi. The award reads " Indian Learners Own Academy, Kuwait is recognized for breaking new grounds in deep learning by impacting various categories of intelligences of learners at school through Innovation in teaching pedagogy. "

Latest award received is EBA Award- 2017- ‘Excellence in Quality’ Award at International Conference an annual joint effort of Europe Business Assembly (UK), Academic Union Oxford (UK), European Medical Association (Belgium), Swiss Institute of Quality Standards (Switzerland). On 28th July 2018 received Dr. A.P. J Abdul Kalam outstanding Principal’s Award from Himakshara.

Besides this she has spiritual inclination and likes to expand her knowledge in metaphysical matters. She loves to assist students and teachers in finding the right path in the field of learning. She enjoys music for relaxation.

8Mrs. Sharma is married for 38 years now and is blessed with two daughters. Her elder daughter, Gunjan is an architect and topper of SCAD, U. S. A. She has been married to Mr. Vic Tauro at Delhi who is an engineer and currently working as Manager at Melbourne in Australia. Gunjan is at pivotal place in Metro of Melbourne.

Her younger daughter Geetika, who is a graduate in mass communication and journalism, is currently pursuing her M.B.A alongside B. Ed. She is also married to a businessman, Mr. Ankur Seth at Delhi who owns real estate business at Greater Kailash, Delhi.

Her husband Mr. D.K. Sharma is the manager of Jabriya Indian School and Chairman of Learner’s Own Academy.  It is an established saying that there is a woman behind every successful man but in this case, it is her husband here who supported her on each step.

Mrs. Sharma is a grandmother now and sees the face of her grandchildren in each student at school.  Diligence and hard work flows in the veins of this family. The hallmark of all the members of this family is sincerity and professionalism.
