Padmavathy Senthil kumar

The simple motto of her life is to think BIG always and try to achieve it!

Enjoy the World, Be Happy, Be helpful & Serve the mankind!!

pama thumpFrom Jhansi Ki Rani to Padmavathy, Indian women have always stood up for their ambitions, rights and fought their battles despite restrictions and limitations. They are the shining beacons of hope and have displayed exemplary dedication in their respective fields. Here is the brief story about Padmavathy, a computer engineer who with her determination became a Canadian.

Women Achievement!

Padma says , “I feel all the ladies in the world are achievers! I’m just sharing my life experience here……… I started my life in a small village studying in a panchayat union school in Tamil medium and then in a Government High School. When I was studying 8th standard, I was taking Maths for the class as there was no Maths teacher. This was one of the achievements during my school days”.

After completing computer engineering degree, she started own computer centre; did small projects for the State Bank of India.

After her eldest sister’s marriage, all the family business came on her and had to shoulder them well. Indane Gas Dealership was an unique experience: meeting different customers, planning, distribution of cylinders, etc., Got the Best Woman Dealer Award for reaching 5000 customers within 4-5 months!

IMG 4488“We are 6 sisters in the family and my father treated me like a boy! My father used to cultivate paddy and peanuts in our farms; I gave suggestion to go for annual crops like sugarcane, ‘kutchi’., and also, paddy from 3 months to 6 months like ‘zeera’ rice! This gave better yield and money and felt like an achievement which helped my father in those difficult times” Padma recollects.

Padma who was running a school and a gas distribution agency then had to give away and settle in Kuwait after marrying Senthil Kumar who is a Chemical Engineer working for EQUATE Petrochemicals Company, the pioneer in ‘Plastics’ in Kuwait. By profession Padmavathy is a Computer Engineer and started her career in developing a matriculation school at her young age.

Raghavendra Matriculation School was established in the year 1989 and is a private organisation run by Sri Raghavendra Educational & Charitable Trust. It is a rural school situated in Thuraiyur Taluk, 45 Kilometres North of Trichy. The school is currently staffed by 2 Principals, 21 teaching staff and around 20 non-teaching staff.

IMG 4496The schools' current philosophy is to provide learning that are skilfully challenging and appropriate to the contemporary and future needs of our children - "Skills for Life". The school is widely regarded as a one that is providing a good quality education along with discipline for all its students.

Google, Apple, IBM & many other Companies no longer require employees to have a Degree. Google had acknowledged several years ago that college degrees are slowly becoming irrelevant and what matters most are skills.

It is widely seen in India that a person, who has done an Engineering course, is ultimately working in the core banking sector, or is into business development or even marketing. This proves, that even though you have learned a specific subject very well and have a degree to prove the same, your skill sets may be pointing in the other direction.

The school strongly focus on bringing up student well-being and creating a positive and inclusive school culture. Positive relationships exist among students, staff, the management and parents. The management and staff render sufficient care and support for students. Positive partnership with families and the community from local vicinity are entertained.

IMG 4509Children are motivated to accept the raw nature of this world along with responsibility for their own learning and behaviour, descripting a vivid understanding of their development as independent learners through XSEED methodology of teaching.

The school management and teaching staff focus on lifting students achievement levels. The management and the teachers plan appropriate programmes to meet the varying abilities and needs of all students.

Language learning programmes (especially for English) are rendered to the students by a Chennai based organization who trains urban students of metropolitans like Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad. Motivational programmes like "You can Win" is also organized for the benefit of the students. The management, the Principal and teachers are progressing stanch processes in place to support student's positive transition in school and in real life.

Student's learning and progress is regularly shared with parents / guardians in a number of formal and informal ways. Parents are provided with reports that show how well students are performing and are given with suggestion to meet up the needed standard to achieve more.

IMG 4520The School's curriculum is well designed and useful in promoting and supporting student's learning and engagement. XSEED curriculum help students become independent learners and develop skills to interact successfully with other.

Students are provided with broad range of interesting and varied learning experiences on nature, science, sports, arts and languages within and beyond the school through weekly club activities.

The Students are given encouragement to thank everyone who helps them by writing a noted named "Gratitude Note". The school believes that this will help the students become more thankful towards everyone and everything.Teachers are able to share their expertise and thoughts. So many external agencies assist teachers through programmes like "I can win as Teachers" provide targeted learning programmes. Good use of the teacher’s individual strength is made to improve learning outcomes for students.

The school community also provide the students with opportunities like trekking and field trips to support their development of understanding of nature and its importance. Staffs and Students enjoy a pleasant, well presented environment with a community library, lay grounds and courts which are in a well-maintained state.

IMG 4500Thus, with this above-mentioned amenities and methodology the school aims to become one of the foremost educational institutions by uplifting the rural students of Tamil Nadu, by inculcating moral and cultural values imparting quality education & providing skills for financial independence. We are sure to make future India more meaningful with the right skills inculcated to our students. Recently the school got a State Level Award from the Cabinet Ministers.

The school is reaching its 30th anniversary in 2019 and the school motto is “Good Thoughts…. Good Actions, Educating students is not only good students but good citizens”. Padma is keen in developing the school to further heights in the years to come.

Padma is the 5th daughter of an agriculturist and philanthropist, founder of RKBS Transport, founder of Raghavendra School, Thuraiyur Late. Sri. G. Shanmugavelu and Late Smt. Ramkumari, she joined Senthil Kumar in Kuwait 1997.  Since then she is a loving home-maker with a lot of patience.

The couple is blessed with a son Divijj Yuvaraj Kumar, who is doing his IInd year of Global Business in the University of Waterloo, Canada and a daughter Nigharika (known as Nickie) who is doing Ist Year Medicine in RCSI Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Bahrain. They were studying their early part of schooling at British School of Kuwait (BSK), Canadian Schools and The American School of Kuwait (ASK).

Padma moved from Kuwait to Canada in 2010 and became a Canadian. It is a great distinction for a person who studied in a panchayat union school in a rural village in India to become a Canadian. She has to sacrifice her computer engineering profession for the sake of raising the 2 children. She was managing the 2 children in Toronto for 6 years all alone by herself to give them best education.

Lessons she learnt from Canada:Padmavathy says further “Now I am trying to be a good wife and good mother for my 2 children. Got a chance to settle in Canada! Whether I am an Indian or a Canadian, I am proud to be a Tamilian that gives the energy”.

If you get a chance, don’t miss the opportunity

Don’t be afraid to anything

Talk without any fear

English is just a language

Explore your knowledge

Don’t ever give up

For any problems, we have solutions always.

One of the wishes for Padma is to go and visit their adopted kids in Africa soon and be with them for some time.  Ngnire 8 years old of Kofan community who speaks Syenara from Mali, Sikasso Circle, West Africa and she wants to be a teacher; Rigbe 10 Years old of Laelay Maychew community who speaks Tigrigna from Ethiopia, Central Tigray, East Africa and  she also wants to be a teacher.
