Eat fish, live longer

Want to live longer? Eat fish rich in omega 3 fatty acids such as salmon, mackerel, herring, lake trout, sardines and albacore tuna.
The Harvard School of Public Health study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine stated the health benefits of omega-3 fatty acids. The researchers assessed blood levels of omega-3 in 2,692 healthy older adults. None of them used fish oil supplements.
During the 16-year follow-up, 1,625 people died, including 570 from cardiovascular causes.
Those with the highest blood levels of omega-3 fatty acids lived 2.2 years longer. They also had a 27 per cent lower risk of death from any cause and about a 35 per cent lower risk of dying from cardiovascular disease.
According to the author, the most beneficial levels could be achieved by consuming about two 3.5-ounce servings of fatty fish, such as salmon, a week.
