Kuwait’s First High School Hackathon: A Student-Led Milestone

Priority 2Kuwait recently witnessed its first-ever high school hackathon, organized by Netraa Shah, a high school student with a passion for technology and innovation. The event took place at KTech on the 14th and 15th of March and was made possible through fiscal sponsorship from Hack Club, along with support from the Linux Foundation and CNCF. Netraa’s leadership and vision played a key role in making the event a success, marking a significant milestone for Kuwait’s tech community.

Over the course of two days, participants engaged in three key workshops on Robotics, Web Development, and Hardware. These sessions were led by experienced KTech professors and a Ph.D. holder in electrical engineering, providing valuable insights and hands-on experience. Following the workshops, participants were challenged to create a "Scrappy-themed" project, applying the knowledge they had gained in creative and innovative ways.

The winning project was decided through peer voting, encouraging a sense of community and teamwork. The victorious team was awarded a cash prize of 30 KD, adding an exciting competitive edge to the event.

Netraa Shah’s vision and effort in organizing this hackathon reflect a growing interest in tech and innovation among Kuwait’s youth. The event not only provided valuable technical skills but also inspired a new wave of creativity and problem-solving among high school students. This hackathon marks the beginning of a promising future for student-led tech initiatives in Kuwait.
