Murugesan Donating Eyes
Timely help is considered great, albeit small – thus said Thiruvalluvar, the famous Tamil poet in his wonderful couplets.
On 31st December 2013, Mr. Murugesan of Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India, a Member of Kind Hearts Association and an ambulance driver lived true to the above words. Mr. Anand of Selvapuram Suburb of Coimbatore contacted Murugesan on 31 December 2013 to take his 70 years old mother, suffering from severe heart pains to hospital for treatment. Murugesan responded immediately and rushed the patient along with relatives in his ambulance to K.G. Hospital, Coimbatore. But unfortunately the patient Smt. Santhakumari passed away on the way to the hospital itself. Doctors at the hospital declared the reason for death was due to heart attack and the relatives arranged to take the body home in Murugesan’s ambulance itself.
At that juncture, Murugesan spoke to the relatives in an awakening way regarding eye donation and that by doing so, the deceased continues to live through others. Moved by the speech, the husband of the deceased, Shri. Ranganathan, son Anand and daughter in law Laxmi Priya agreed and came forward to donate Santhakumari’s eyes and requested Murugesan for the way forward. Immediately then, Murugesan gave information to Aravind Eye Hospital, Coimbatore and arranged for donating the eyes of the deceased. Aravind Eye Hospital’s doctors arrived immediately on the scene and took care of further procedures related to removal of the eyes.
Murugesan was thanked profusely by the relatives for showing them the way for a noble cause and continuation of Santhakumari’s life in some form and substance. Even while grieving over my mother’s sad demise, we are consoled and feel alright by the fact that my mother continues to live, sobbed the son Anand and vouched that they would all donate their eyes. The family members can’t be thanked enough for such a noble cause. Please watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1dG70bRcWU&list=UUItkV-aZwettjImLxCk7qw. Although Smt. Santhakumari has passed away, she has enlightened the lives of two others. Let us pray for the deceased soul to rest in peace.
Murugesan, although only 28 years of age deserves our accolades and kudos for such a wonderful deed, although in the line of his duty, but by awakening some members of the society for such a noble cause. Indian Frontliners, Kuwait thank all those associated in the above noble cause. Long live Murugesan and Smt. Santhakumari and her family.
